Blog Boundaries
In my weekly review of Billboard magazine, I am very proud to find that Cassie’s single “Me & U” holds positions on three charts, #49 on the Pop 100 Airplay, #26 on the Rhythmic Top 40, and #20 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles. Nonetheless, the success is bittersweet in light of recent personally insulting comments made on Cassie’s blog, intended to damage her morale. In all ventures, it’s important to note that trusted friends and business partners are instrumental in keeping the faith. As such, I reached out to my counterpart on the West Coast, Rasheed Richmond, for some practical analysis of the situation:
We concluded that our on-line efforts were too valuable to be thwarted my the impish musings of anonymous nay-sayers, and implemented a system on Cassie’s blog whereby comments must be approved, and may only be left by registered users with valid e-mail addresses.

Sorry to hear it. It is really just a part of online community. Anyone who professionally runs an internet community or a large blog is going to have experience with it. It’s a very normal thing and, well, it’ll always be there. Whether it’s at your site or some other site, so you shouldn’t let it taint your success.
You have to have some sort of moderation in place to keep your blog comments moving forward in line with your goals. It might be a good idea to craft some comment guidelines for the NS4Life blogs. If a comment violates those guidelines, it’s deleted. In a perfect world, you could let people say what they want and everyone would be respectful, but this just isn’t a perfect world. Idiots are out there. They post nasty things, play games and try to harm your site. But, you can’t let them have much of an effect on what you do. You just have to take care of them and move on.

Don’t worry bout them low life haters! Cassie should just ignore them, really. Showing them it bothers you gives them triumph.
It will even become worse with more fame she will gain. Trust me, I know. I am not even famous (YET! LOL) and have witnessed so much envy and hate already! It gives you a good schooling, really. It prepares you for anything to come and makes you tougher for any ridicilous comment.
gotta be able to cope with such bs if you want to prevail in the biz. That’s what I experienced.
And hey, seeing how the great comments outweight the bad, then that’s all that counts.

I honestly don’t see why there would even be haters doin this. She’s in print, on tv, on the radio, AND she reaches back to the fans with video diary’s… who else in the music industry does that? No one, and that’s what I love about ya’ll at next selection. Girl’s are just mad cause they can’t be her and guys are just mad cause they don’t stand a chance with someone like her. But as far as me and about 99% of the rest of the world… me & u is incredible, Cassie’s incredible, and nextselction is doin more for the fans than any other label out. Thank you for that.

*smh* to the haters. As a fan of many artists sites I have seen many haters come and gone. Some have stayed but you cannot listen to them because it brings you down and your self esteem!!!! Just stay positive, the only reason why they are haters because 1) they have nothing better to do, 2) cannot succeed in their own careers so they got to hate on someone who’s successful, 3) they cannot make it in the business and are stressed out, 4) they are bored so the only way and form of entertainment is to insult a artist and finally 5) it comes with the industry, as there are many fans that like you, there are 100 + more people that hate you… that’s the business of show business.
Most successful artists always come across this. Take Madonna for example, you cannot let haters let get to your self esteem because you would feel like giving up. Do what you do best because that’s what you can do. What makes you feel comfortable and you feel you did your best at it, there will be more people that will except it, sure there will be a lot of people that don’t like it, that’s their criticism and opinion. Just don’t let it get to you Cassie… be positive and stay strong. Every major entertainer goes through that and still does, for every song, album, movie or any other artistic form of entertaining, there will be haters and people who don’t like you or the way you do your art form. You just got to believe that you can do it and you are satisfied what you did was the best to your ability.

I’ve posted before here, maybe on Cassie’s site too, I’m not sure but people are entitled to their opinions. I’m not sure what comments were posted as I don’t check nearly as often as others but censorship doesn’t stop opinions; people and events do. You can block out those that you think are offensive and unkind but that doesn’t alter their feelings. They will be out there, at shows, in album release parties, bringing their rain clouds with them. What I think is most important is working to not only stay true to yourself but showing that they are completely wrong– that the effort you are dedicating to the craft is sincere and real and not a carbon copy with a different face. Its definitely a tough industry, and that’s putting it lightly. Here in California, its worse, because everyone looks, moves, singings and acts like you do (and I mean you GENERAL not specific). Entertainment news is no different, the media is much more ruthless and prying than any “naysayer” will ever be. Give them something to silence their mouths, and they will be.

The music business is quite a funny establishment. One minute you’re just the average person and the next minute youre the average person… with a gift to show the world your talent. Alot of the time people don’t take it very easily because egos get in the way of everything. Youngsters trying to set their trends and make it big in the industry dont necessarily get jealous but they get caught up in the whole fact of “WHY?” they’re not being spotted… Sure enough theyve got talent. But it’s not everyone that can make it in the industry and theres a very thin line between a great artist and an exceptional artist and people need to be made aware of that before they run their mouths.
People need to start focussing on giving these established artists such as Cassie and Ryan some more RESPECT for the fact that theyre doing their very best to even communicate with you all. Alot of artists don’t have the time to do that while theyre on the road, on tour or in the recording studio and we as a collective of youngsters (with dreams and aspirations) should respect that we do get to communicate. Why? Because who knows - someday it could be one of us up there in the spotlight and we definitely wouldnt want someone a few years younger, or the same age as us, trying to bring us down.
So let’s be very realistic about this situation and give NS4LIFE all the help and constant support that they need to make their lives much better people. Thank you.

I think you need to stay positive ignore the bad comments and realise that it is not personal. It can’t possibly be, because they don’t know you Cassie. When you have talent sometimes it is a two edged sword. You’ll have the people that love you and the ones that dislike you. It’s hard to keep above it because to be an artist you must be sensitive unfortunately you have to also develope a hard skin to ignore the haters. Aww, poor Cassie. What were people saying about her that was so bad? She’s gotta learn to look past that and get thicker skin, or at least come back at them and let them know they ain’t right. If she can’t spit defending comments back, she gon have alotta troubles. I’ve been reading a couple of the blogs and you know everybody has their own opinion about people.It’s just unfortunate that you can’t retaliate the way you would like to especially when something’s said that gets to you. But look at it like this-if somebody’s hating and saying some foul u know what about you that just means that their life is not right and they wish that they could do the things that you guys are doing. The industry is a tough business and people will test you. That’s just the way the devil works. Cassie I am proud of you girl cuz u r doing ya thang and u got a lot of good people backing ou. So don’t let that bull get to you. Keep doing what you doing cuz the haters will always hate. It’s just in their nature. I got ya back girl. That’s why I got ya joint up on my myspace page. I have to say that the personal attacks for no reason are just wrong, and people who do that really need a hobby. If you have nothing nice to say don’t say it at all. I however have something along the lines of constructive criticism to get off my chest and whether it will be approved or deleted I don’t know but at least I will have gotten it off my chest.
I recently had the opportunity to “meet” Cassie in person on 12 August 2006 when she came to Fort Hood. I waited for hours with my daughter, her friends, and HUNDREDS of other military children of deployed soldiers who had lined up and waited to meet Cassie. I would like to add that not only where the children lined up but many of our brave heroes’s not currently deployed to the war turned out to see her as well.
With this said I have to tell you that I don’t think that I will be counting myself a fan of Cassie’s any longer and that is in response to her actions and not something thing I read online or because of something that some one else had to say.
While we appreciate Cassie taking the time out of her hectic schedule to come and see us many of us where left cold and put off by her DIVA behavior. First she was 45 minutes late and didn’t even offer an apology for her tardiness. Then Cassie refused to allow anyone who had not purchased the CD up to meet her or sign anything other than the CD cover. Many of these kids have been voting her video on TRL and MTV and some hadn’t purchased the CD yes instead choosing to save their money to purchase gifts for Cassie to remember her visit to the largest military installation in the USA.
My daughter woke me at 6am to go stand in a line for an event that did not start until 1pm, that’s how BIG A FAN she is. She took all her allowance to purchase a 3rd Signal Bde Throw blanket with her father’s unit crest on it and then cut grass to be sure she had enough to buy the CD as well. Then when we get up there Cassie doesn’t bother to look up or try to make small talk or even ask her name before signing “Cassie” on the CD cover and pushing it back across the table. To get a picture my daughter had the lean over the table…
Now I am sure that you’re probably thinking this is just the thoughts of one disgruntled fat person hating on the beautiful star but let me tell you now that is not the case. Myself and many of the other parents who had stood in line that day were left feeling that Cassie only wanted to be bother by those willing to shell out money to line her pocket and not by her fan’s who came out to show love.
Now Cassie is a beautiful girl with a lovely voice and while she maybe new and learning the ropes one of those ropes needs to be how to treat her fans. Our children saw her visit as Cassie coming to support their fathers/mothers off defending our country and were extremely left down by her behavior. My daughter was so heart broken that she asked to return the CD that Cassie had signed to get her money back and is saving the throw for when Danity Kane comes to visit (if they do). She is no longer going online to vote for “Me & You” and she and her friends are not calling up the radio station requesting the song like they use to.
So whether you post this or not I feel better knowing that I have gotten this off my chest and hope that the next time you do a personal appearance you will take this into consideration.
