Peace and Riot
My show at the Qin Elysee tonite was significant for two reasons, first because I was performing songs from my album for the first time in France, and secondly, because of the events in Paris surrounding this gig. I will never forget the passionate faces of the students and young people we saw on the BBC news in my suite before I walked to the venue and took to the stage. Though my 20 minute set at a small club in France was no where near as impactful, I was reminded of James Brown’s historic 1968 concert in Boston following Dr. King’s assasination - and I couldn’t help but feel that I was (in my own small way) continuing the living legacy of one of my heroes. This clip shows that music can truly bring people together in trying times:

Hi Ryan,
France is living couples of crises.Student against the CPE (Contrat Premiere Embauche). But i think on the top of that people are tired to live the way they’re living.Too much poverty, more money to the rich people and less or no money to live to poor people.i think what’s happening now in France and it’s gonna be worse it’s the Country who’s Shooting ENOUGH, a call from the streets…You can pull only a certain time…When u ve got nothing to loose it’s how he’s gonna end up…Like May 68 Civil War in the streets in between Police and People…
Peace

come on kids, this wasn’t a civil war, just a few incidents at the end of a student protest in a particular neighborhood of paris, it’s not all over Paris. I watched the news on CNN and BBC and they made it look like a revolution and civil war. Y’all making it sound like he got lucky he came back alive, damn, it’s not Rwanda or Baghdad dammit!!

ryan, would love to have you join us as a spokesperson for Our Education’s “A Million Voices, One Right” National Youth Petition Campaign. I’m meeting with the co-directors of Our Education in NYC on friday to discuss what we would feel comfortable asking of you…
btw, it’s amazing to watch you go thru your pub out there, intermixed with the student protests. inspiring to see students speak out in france and demand change from their leaders. inspiring to see that they actually have a voice that politicians listen to. we’re hoping to create that same culture here in the US with Our Ed.
*fingers crossed*
enjoy paris and keep living your dream

I agree with Koma. Please Don’t make it look like it’s Bagdad; And if it was a civil war.Stop just watching CNN and be ignorant, otherwise u’ll be all ur life. And U’ll be always manipulated.Ryan is Safe,he’s back but he wasn’t in Bagdad…So please don’t make France look like something is not…
Peace

Bro,
I dig your site and the intimacy it offers. However, the James Brown comparison is a bit much and witnessing the events in Paris from your hotel suite is too weak to go on about.
Keep up the good work, and try to stay grounded.
