The song is cool but I think You and some other producers are starting to really wear this whole showing us how you do everything on you tube is really getting played out, I mean your talented don’t get me wrong and I support your movement but damn what ever happened to the mystery in making music? Do you Mr. Leslie remember the first time you heard a prince record or a Pete rock track and said “damn how did they do that?” that was magical. Well thanks to you and a few others that magic is fading fast. That’s why the records aren’t selling like they used to because the mystery is gone. Trust me the day you see Prince on you tube showing someone how he makes his magic will probably be a cold day in hell because he knows he’s talented and doesn’t need validation from online groupies telling him that. The bottom line is we all know you know how to market yourself and your brand which is cool but damn homie at the expense of the art?, in about 2 seconds there will be 50 million Ryan Leslie’s biting your style and using your same equipment that you show in your Harlem studio and guess what my friend you will no longer be relevant. Think about that homie. Short money or Long Money. The respect for the art is fading so you can get more exposure well I guess that’s your lifestyle.

I think this is awesome. In response to Kashiff’s comment, well sure, he has a point but there a few things to note: 1) Ryan clearly builds his production on musicianship and songwriting, as any GREAT producer should, not gear and 2) the amount of $$$ this gear costs isn’t really the kind some kid in the ghetto dreaming to be the next Ryan Leslie can buy next week. Know what I mean? It brings a different point, which I always stress to producers I meet - focus on songwriting, musicianship, lyrics and melody. It’s too easy to get entranced by a flashy synths like the Alesis Andromeda and Korg Triton, and think that you’re a “producer” because you have a hot piece of gear. Rarely do you meet someone with has it all (and Ryan has it all), and that point may not come across in this clip, but it doesn’t need to because it’s meant to serve as inspiration as to where you can be down the road, NOT tomorrow.

As soon as i seen this youtube clip of u making this hit single right here i was gone. I listen 2 this song much, people thought i was the artist behind the song since they didn’t recognize your name. But since then i have turned a majority of my campus into Ryan Leslie “Promise Not 2 Call” fans, we are in the process of choreagraphing a dance routine to the song for our Spring Homecoming. OK. I make music, have done a few things in New York with two individuals who worked under your Manager/Mentor in their beginning. I have relapsed.
None of that matters. My friend, or not, you have learned to capture something that is important. True, honest expression that is commercially viable. Very difficult no matter what level of expertise you have acquired. It only comes like that when you decide to actually express it.
I also sat with (sorry to name drop) Corey Rooney when you were signed to Casablanca and your sound has developed into what it is now and you should have a string of hits with your own album.
Great job, and you have made a great step as far as marketing goes with your video blogs. Genius.

To this procedure how U make musik… what can I say… I started Dj’ing since 1990 and I had a friend who traveld a lot to the states and he brought the GUY CD “Future” and the Boyz II MEN CD Coolyhighharmony… since then I loved the R&B and the new era of mixing Hip Hop with funky, souly, or electric elements… You bring this all brand new together and it seems so simple, but no one can do it.
