Work in Progress
As you’ve noticed by now - I’ve been hard at work on new records for Cassie’s album and it’s been a consuming process to challenge myself musically. This past weekend was a very creative time, and we spent Friday and Saturday exploring new ground for her. We decided to experiment with talking on a record, and also found that she had a unique vocal texture when she sang in her lower register. Since Diddy had just returned from Brazil, and was in town working on his own album - we paid him a visit at his studio Saturday night to get his opinion on the work in progress.

yah man… i love cassie and all, but i don’t know about the speakin’ on the track… the tracks hot, but the rap almost sounds untrue to who cassie is as an artist… it could grow on me, but personally i like a joint that i like from the get go, not one that heavy rotation influences… you kno what i mean… but please understand, i love the production of the track… just maybe need to go with the vocals more so than speakin’

I’m really feeling that joint you played for diddy. It really fits Cassie’s Voice. I love her style of music . Like the track.and the speaking sounds good for me.Maybe some extra gimmick things here and there + a Little effort t in the rythym part to make it sound complexer or obtain some fuller bodyed sound (or adding some bass!) Try adding a snare on the finger snap (make it dynamic)

I think Cassie has a nice voice but she sounds like what is already out, i.e. Christina Milan, Ciara, even Mya– studio creations, with the same multi-ethic look of long hair and fair skin, soft-airy voices with heavy computer generation and beats and lyrics produced and written by a team that’s done this for the umptenth time. It’s really disappointing that nothing new and fresh and original is coming out just more formula pre-divas. I hope Cassie can dance.
